BKA and FIOD shut down eXch with the support of zeroShadow

BKA and FIOD, supported by zeroShadow and Europol, shut down eXch, seizing €34M in crypto and 8TB of data linked to money laundering.

€ 34 million in cryptocurrency has been seized during the operation

On 30 April 2025, the Public Prosecution office of Frankfurt am Main - Zentralstelle zur Bekämpfung der Internet-kriminalität (ZIT)and the Bundeskriminalamt (BKA) seized the server infrastructure of the cryptocurrency swap service "eXch" and shut down the platform. The operation resulted in the confiscation of the substantial amount of over 8 terabyte of data, along with more than € 34 million in cryptocurrency.The administrators of eXch are suspected of, including but not limited, being involved in money laundering and operating an illegal online trading platform.

The BKA and the FIOD closely collaborated during the investigation. The FIOD operation was supported by Europol and cybersecurity firm zeroShadow. A link to the comprehensive press release from the German authorities can be found  here .
